Ganapathi suicide: Karnataka doctors statement rocks state assembly

A dharna was staged following reports by a section of media that Dr Shylaja, who had appeared before the CBI has said that she was under intense pressure from the government to declare it as suicide.

BELAGAVI: Members of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Monday staged a dharna in the assembly over Dr Shylaja statement that there was pressure on her from the government to declare deputy superintendent Ganpathi as suicide.

The dharna was staged following reports by a section of media that Dr Shylaja, who had appeared before the CBI has said that she was under intense pressure from the government to declare it as suicide.

During the post-lunch session, leader of the opposition, Jagadish Shettar pointed out to the media reports and demanded the resignation of the chief minister himself. He said that the government stands exposed to this report.

A commotion ensued following the remarks, as Congress members ridiculed him by saying that instead of discussing issues of North Karnataka, BJP was indulging in unnecessary political gimmicks. Following the same, BJP members got into the well of the house to protest and demanded the resignation of Bengaluru Development Minister K J George. Amidst these allegations and counter allegations, JD (S) MLAs jumped into the scene demanding discussion on farmers’ issues.

Speaker Koliwad adjourned the house for ten minutes. When the house reassembled, the BJP members got into well. However, they withdrew the protest after the Speaker agreed to allow a discussion in this regard.
