Reconsider decision on House Committee to monitor media: Karnataka Minister

Health Minister Ramesh Kumar has asked Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad to reconsider his decision on formation of the Joint House Committee to look into functioning of the media.

BENGALURU: Health Minister Ramesh Kumar has asked Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad to reconsider his decision on formation of the Joint House Committee to look into functioning of the media.

In a letter to the Speaker, Ramesh Kumar, who also heads the 13-member house committee, stated that the issue can be resolved amicably by holding discussions with the media representatives.

The House Committee with 10 MLAs and three MLCs was formed during the recent Assembly session after legislators’ accused media of being irresponsible and biased against elected representatives. While announcing formation of the committee, the Speaker had stated that it was not an attempt to curb media freedom.
