Debt-ridden Karnataka farmer commits suicide

HAVERI: A farmer committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in his field in Haveri district of Karnataka on Friday.

Deceased farmer Raju Laxman Ambiger, 30, was a resident of Medleri village in Ranebennur taluk.

He had availed a loan of Rs 5 lakh from Hirebidari Corporation Bank besides private loans of Rs 2 lakh, said Ranebennur Rural PSI C C Chougale.

Ambiger is believed to have taken the drastic step due to the financial crisis which aggravated with the crop loss. A case has been registered in Ranebennur Rural Police Station.
