Sasikala likely to be released on parole today

AIADMK leader V K Sasikal is likely to be released on parole from the Parappana Agrahara prison here on Friday, according to a senior officer of the state Prisons Department.

BENGALURU: AIADMK leader V K Sasikal is likely to be released on parole from the Parappana Agrahara prison here on Friday, according to a senior officer of the state Prisons Department. He told Express on Thursday that the duration of her parole will be based on the recommendations recieved from the government of Tamil Nadu.

Sasikala’s nephew and sidelined party leader TTV Dhinakaran reched Bengaluru on Thursday night to recieve her. More than 500 supporters are also expected to gather at Parappana Agrahara Central prison following the recent developments.Karnataka prison authorities, who have considered Sasikala plea to release her on parole, are waiting for a no objection cirtificate from the Tamil Nadu police over her security arrangements. A senior officer from the Prisons Department said, “We are waiting for documents produced by sasikala to be verified. Further, the Tamil Nadu police also have to give us an NOC over providing security to her.”

Two days ago, Sasikala had applied for 15-days parole to meet her ailing husband, who recently underwent a liver transplant at a Chennai hospital. The legal cell in the prison verified her plea and sent the documents to the Tamil Nadu government for reverification. “Once we get the confirmation, a decision will be taken,” the officer added.Sasikala along with her relatives Ilavarasi and V N Sudhakaran are serving a four year jail term since February after the Supreme Court upheld their conviction by a special court in a disproportionate assets case.
