BENGALURU: AIADMK leader V K Sasikala was granted emergency parole for five days by Parappana Agrahara Central Prisons authorities on Friday, to meet her ailing husband. The parole, granted between October 7 and October 11, excludes two days for travel. Sasikala is expected to report back to prison by 3pm on October 12.Sasikala had applied for parole to meet her husband, who underwent a liver and kidney transplant in Chennai.

The emergency parole was granted under several conditions, that restrict Sasikala from entertaining any visitors or indulging in any political activity.Sasikala was released around 3pm on Friday. About 100 supporters of the sidelined leader including AIADMK leader T T V Dhinakaran had gathered in front of the prison. Dhinakaran, who is also her nephew, is leading a faction of AIADMK MLAs following her imprisonment.

According to her lawyer Krishnappa, Rajya Sabha member from Tamil Nadu Navneet Krishnan gave an undertaking for Sasikala’s parole and deposited a surety of `1,000. She was taken in an SUV to the Chennai hospital where her husband is recuperating after surgery.

In a release regarding conditions imposed on ‘convict prisoner number 9234’ for her emergency parole issued by the Prisons Department, Sasikala is “restricted only to visit the hospital” and directed to stay at the residence mentioned in her parole application. Sasikala had earlier sought emergency parole of 15 days.
