MANGALURU: Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy today expressed confidence that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh would nab the culprits soon.

"I am very confident that the SIT will nab the killers of Gauri Lankesh soon. I am also confident that the killers of (MM) Kalburgi will also be caught," he told reporters here.

The SIT was looking into all the aspects of the Lankesh murder case, Reddy said, adding that it had collected certain clues and sought time to gather more evidence.

Lankesh (55), a harsh critic of Hindutva politics, was gunned down by unidentified assailants in front of her residence in Bengaluru on September 5.

On the allegation levelled by Karnataka BJP leaders that their phones were being tapped, he said the state government would write to the Centre on the issue.

Reddy, who held a meeting with senior police officials here, said he had given instructions to invoke the stringent Goondas Act against those trying to disrupt peace in the district.

Meanwhile, the parents of Kavya, who allegedly committed suicide in the Alva's college hostel in July, met the home minister and demanded a probe into the case by the Corps of Detectives (CoD).
