Girl rescued from canal, says she was abducted

Locals and fire brigade personnel rescued a girl who had “fallen” into a canal of Upper Tunga Project near Anupinakatte here on Wednesday afternoon.

SHIVAMOGGA: Locals and fire brigade personnel rescued a girl who had “fallen” into a canal of Upper Tunga Project near Anupinakatte here on Wednesday afternoon. The 16-year-old girl did not suffer any injuries despite her “fall” into the canal.

In her statement, she said she was kidnapped by three people while she was going to a shop in Gopala Extension. She fell unconscious in the Maruti van in which she was being taken and found herself in the canal when she regained her conciousness, she said.

The canal is full of boulders and water runs to a depth of 10 feet. It surprised the locals that she neither sustained injuries nor drowned. When she screamed for help, those working in nearby fields rushed to her help. Fire brigade was called in. She went home straight as she did not suffer injuries.A case has been filed with Tunga Nagar police.
