20 per cent pre-university evaluators bunk exam work despite notice

At least 20% of pre-university college teachers did not turn up for evaluation work of second-year PU course examinations.

BENGALURU: At least 20 per cent of pre-university college teachers did not turn up for evaluation work of second-year PU course examinations. This came despite orders being issued instructing teachers to be present for evaluation work.

However, according to department officials, the evaluation work will be completed by the second week of April. “Of the 53 evaluation camps, the work at 34 camps is complete,” PUE department director C Shikha said.

The department will soon issue notices to the teachers who were absent and will take further action depending on the teacher’s response. “There have been instances in the past where the department penalised absentees and also held back their increments.

The action will be decided based on the explanation provided by them,” a senior official from the examination section said.As per the department rules, teachers can be exempted from evaluation work in case of health issues and other emergencies. “Once we verify applications, we will know the reasons for their absence.

This will be later placed before the higher officials for further action,” an official explained.
A department official said, “The 20% absenteeism has not impacted the evaluation work in any way. Though a large number of scripts are in commerce and languages, the evaluation work has not been delayed because of the absentees.” The department is confident of declaring the results by the last week of April.
