BENGALURU:  The High Grounds police have registered an FIR against Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee working president Dinesh Gundu Rao, for his controversial statement against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Dr B Ramachari, national secretary of the Hindu Task Force and a resident of Rajajinagar, filed a complaint with the High Grounds police on Tuesday, alleging that Rao’s statements against Yogi Adityanath were derogatory in nature and had hurt the sentiments of Hindus. “Besides, the statements were highly provocative in nature, intending to create communal hatred,” the complainant alleged.

“Based on his complaint, we have registered an FIR against Rao under Section 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) of the IPC,” an official said.

On Saturday, during a candlelight vigil protesting Unnao and Kathua rape cases, Rao had asked people of Karnataka to drive Yogi Adityanath out of the state with slippers if he tried to set foot in Karnataka, landing him in a controversy. The next day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had staged protests against him and had filed a complaint with the Election Commission.
