BENGALURU: A counter-complaint filed by one of the accused against the victim of the assault, Vidvat Loganathan, states the latter was drunk. The complaint stated that his drunk condition initiated the fight leading to assaulting the complainant and his friends, which included Congress MLA NA Haris’ son Mohammed Haris Nalapad. However, despite Mallya Hospital certifying that Vidvat “was conscious and alert...and not under the influence of alcohol”, the Cubbon Park police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the victim of the assault, based on the accused’s counter-complaint.

FIR says Vidvat was consuming alcohol at a table. “He kicked Babu, then picked a fight, abused and assaulted Babu and the others including Mohammed,” the FIR stated. Babu’s complaint states the facial injuries sustained by Vidvat were because of him losing control and falling.

Arun Babu, a resident of Austin Town, filed the complaint, based on which the Cubbon Park police have booked Vidvat and his friends for wrongful restraint, causing hurt, insult with intent to provoke breach of peace and criminal intimidation.

The FIR states that Arun Babu and his friends (does not mention names) had gone to Farzi Cafe in UB City on Saturday. It added that Vidvat had brushed his leg against the complainant’s leg. When Babu questioned Vidvat, the latter allegedly picked a fight.

Vidvat allegedly told the complainant, ‘Do you know who am I? Do you know who my father is?’, and abused him. He also allegedly slapped him while his friends joined him in assaulting the complainant and his friends. In the melee, Vidvat, who was drunk, lost balance and fell down, sustaining facial injuries, the FIR added. While the FIR filed in connection with Vidvat’s friend Praveen Venkatachalaiah mentions that the incident took place around 10 pm, Arun Babu’s complaint mentions that it was between 10.30 pm to 10.35 pm.
