Karnataka: Gang of four kidnaps sub-registrar, warns him against harassing his subordinates

The gang, which drove him for more than 10 hours,  assaulted him and abandoned him near Kanakapura Road.

BENGALURU: A senior sub-registrar in the city who got out of office after work hours and was walking towards Lalbagh was in for a rude shock when he was kidnapped by a gang of four. He got a bigger shock when they sternly told him not to harass his subordinates.

The gang, which drove him for more than 10 hours,  assaulted him and abandoned him near Kanakapura Road. The police are yet to get any clues about the kidnappers Rangaswamy (59),  the Senior Sub-Registrar working at the Shanthinagar Sub-Registrar Office,  in his complaint to the Wilson Garden police, said the incident took place on July 5.  His ordeal which began at 5.50pm ended at 4am the next day.
Rangaswamy said he had just left office and was walking on a footpath towards Lalbagh when a car stopped by him and four unknown men bundled him into the car in full public view.

The time then was 5.50 pm.  As he screamed for help, they sprayed something on his face and blindfolded him. They were playing loud music so that other commuters wouldn’t get to hear his screams.
The abductors told him that he had done great injustice to his subordinates in the office and they had come to help them, the complaint said. Though Rangaswamy pleaded that he had not harassed his staff and asked them to bring the persons who claimed so, they did not leave him and continued driving.

The 4 kidnappers were young: Sub-registrar

THE kidnappers made Rangaswamy (59),  the Senior Sub-Registrar working at the Shanthinagar Sub-Registrar Office, call his wife over the phone and tell her that his friends had come to visit him and he wouldn’t come home that night.

“Around 4 am on July 6, they dropped me at a place and sped away. When I managed to remove the blindfold, I was at Shell petrol pump near NICE Road toll plaza on Kanakapura Road. I went home from there, and then visited a doctor. The four kidnappers were aged between 20 and 25 years,” Rangaswamy stated in his police complaint.

The police, who have registered an FIR and booked the culprits for kidnapping, wrongful restraint and assault, are yet to find any clues about them. “The victim is not able to recall the make of the car nor has he seen the registration number. We are also analysing the CCTV footage to know the car number but so far it has not yielded any results. Also, two to three staffers from his office were questioned and their role is not established. We are, however, trying to get clues from various means,” a senior police officer said.
