BENGALURU: Taiwanese firm Wistron Technologies is planning to set up the country’s biggest facility to manufacture Apple products in Karnataka with an investment of `3,000 crore. The company officials, who met Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday, sought land at Narasapur industrial area in Kolar district for the greenfield project.

The company that was assembling iPhone SE and iPhone 6S at its facility at Peenya in Bengaluru, is looking to expand its operations in the country. Sources said it plans to set up facilities at Narasapur for assembling all Apple products.

According to CMO officials, during the meeting, a senior executive from the company explained to the CM that the iPhone manufacturing unit, which is being established in an area of about 43 acres, is going to be the biggest project of its type in the country. It will generate employment opportunity for 10,500 people and the company intends to expand the unit, executives from the firm told the CM.

The CM welcomed the idea and asked the company to submit proposal for grant of land required for expansion. He also suggested the company to set up a mobile repair and technology facility in the area as technicians in this field are in demand.

Revenue minister R V Deshpande, who was also present, said that an MoU in this regard can be signed in seven days, provided the company assures to provide employment to Kannadigas. Deshpande was Industries minister in the previous Congress government headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
