SHIVAMOGGA: The accidental death of 17-year-old Sandhya at Mahishi village in Tiratahalli last week has come as a major loss to the state and the country as well. She was one of the finest sportswomen of India and had paved her way to be part of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team.

Sandhya, who was the daughter of an Income Tax official, Narayan, was on her way to Ashwathnarayan Temple when she got down into the Tunga river with her mother to have bath. Looking at her mother drown, Sandhya collapsed and fell into the river and drowned.

Sandhya was playing for the Karnataka Women’s Cricket Team since last three years. Sandhya made her way into the summer camp three years ago, where her coach P V Nagraj from Shivamogga trained her for wicketkeeping in Under 16 category.
