Escort vehicle of Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde hit by speeding truck, one injured; Minister suspects conspiracy

HUBBALI: Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde survived a major accident on the National Highway near Halageri Village on Tuesday when a escort vehicle was hit by a speeding truck with one of his staff members injured.

The Minister was travelling in his car along with his escort and around 11.30 am and when the escort and minister's car was near Halageri village on the National High way a truck allegedly travelling from a wrong side hit the escort vehicle, police said on wednesday.

However, the Union Minister has claimed threat to his life while saying that it was "deliberate attempt" on his life.

In a twitter message he said "The vehicle had been driven in the wrong direction and was parked right in the road horizontally. As soon as our convoy approached he has driven in great speed and had tried hitting our car. As our car was running in good speed we passed away before he could ram us." The minister has suspected a big conspiracy on him and the police would expose the intent behind this incident.

The minister also has stated that the truck driver was normal and was not under influence alcohol.

Haveri Police Superintendant has said that the driver has been arrested and his mobile phone has also been seized.

It may be recalled that Mr. Hegde has been in the news for his most controversial and provocative statements.
