BENGALURU: The Covid-19 curve appears to be only rising in Karnataka after many curbs were eased in Lockdown 3.0. On Sunday, the state recorded a single-day record high of 54 new cases, taking the total to 848. The fatalities also increased to 31 with the death of a woman in Bengaluru.

A 56-year-old resident of Hennur, who was admitted to a private hospital on May 4, was shifted to another hospital on May 6 with symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Illness. Her samples were sent for Covid-19 tests the same day. She died on May 7 and her test results returned positive on May 9.

Belagavi recorded the highest number of 22 cases on Sunday. All patients had a travel history to Ajmer in Rajasthan. Among them are seven males, including a 17-year-old and a 10-year old, and nine females including a 14-year-old girl and a three-year-old child. The second highest number of cases today were from Bagalkot and Shivamogga districts, with eight cases each. The patients from Bagalkot also had a travel history to Ajmer. Of them, two are males and six females, including an eight-year-old girl.

The big number in Shivamogga district, which was in the green zone with no cases so far, has come as shocker. All the eight male patients from Shivamogga district had a travel history to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and are residents of Shikaripura. The seven cases reported from Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district are primary or secondary contacts of Patient 659. Among them are five men and two women. A 29-year-old man from Padarayanapura area in Bengaluru tested positive on Sunday. Another 60-year-old man from the same area also tested positive with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) symptoms.
