Karnataka elections: Presiding officer at Chamnur changed after Cong alleges vote manipulation 

Congress MLA Priyank Kharge alleged that polling was stopped in booth number 178 of the Chamnur village as the presiding officer was "prompting/influencing people to vote for BJP".

KALABURAGI: The Presiding officer at a polling booth in Chamnur village of Chittapur constituency was changed following a complaint alleging voter manipulation,  according to the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka.

B.C Chauhan, the presiding officer of the polling booth was accused of voting for the BJP candidate on behalf of a physically challenged against her wishes.

Congress MLA Priyank Kharge shared a post on Twitter alleging that polling was stopped in booth number 178 as the presiding officer was “prompting/influencing people to vote for BJP”.  Kharge is the incumbent MLA from Chittapur.

In response, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka said, "The Presiding Office is changed immediately based on the complaint received and polling is continued. Due action will be taken against the officer as per law."

Congress Leader Bhagwan told the press that during the testing of EVM, the presiding officer manipulated the votes and influenced the people to vote for BJP, after the people objected, the presiding officer deleted those votes, he added. 

A total of 5,31,33,054 electors are eligible to cast their votes in 58,545 polling stations across the state, where 2,615 candidates are in the fray for the election.
