Bengaluru: Lady conductor helps woman deliver baby in KSRTC bus

With no hospitals nearby, the lady conductor, S Vasanthamma immediately stopped the bus, asked all 45 passengers to alight and the woman delivered the baby inside the bus.

BENGALURU:  A pregnant woman travelling in a KSRTC bus delivered a baby girl with help from a lady conductor on Monday. The wo­man, who was travelling in the bus from Bengaluru to Chik­kamagaluru, went into labour around 1.30 pm near Udayapura Agriculture College.

With no hospitals nearby, the lady conductor, S Vasanthamma immediately stopped the bus, asked all 45 passengers to alight and the woman delivered the baby inside the bus. 

Later, the duo were shifted to Shanthagrama Hospital.

The KSRTC crew and passengers, who realised that the woman was poor, also collected Rs 1,500 and gave her the money. Vasanthamma’s role during an emergency was appreciated by KSRTC MD Sathyavathi, and also the netizens, who urged the corporation to give a free lifetime bus pass to the baby girl.
