‘Congress has come to power, won’t pay power bills’

CHITRADURGA:  Even before the Congress party formed government in Karnataka and implemented its guarantees, people of Jalikatte village in Chitradurga district have warned their Bescom meter reader not to visit their homes to take a meter reading as they will not pay their electricity bills henceforth.

Citing Congress’ guarantee of providing 200 units of free electricity to people, they told the meter reader that “now the party has come to power and we are not going to pay our electricity bills.”

Though the meter reader tried to convince them that they have to pay their bills till the government issues an order in this regard, the people of Jalikatte village were in no mood to listen to him and sent him back.
A video of the Bescom meter reader being taken to task by the villagers has gone viral.

Congress announced 200 units of free power as its first guarantee in Belagavi when it started the “Janashirvada Yatra”.  Further, KPCC president DK Shivakumar promised the people that they need not pay electricity bills from June 1 if his party comes to power. Congress also promised that its guarantees will be approved at its first cabinet meeting for implementation.
