BENGALURU:  Now that the new government is just hours away, the race is on to grab the best rooms at Vidhana Soudha, Vikasa Soudha, Legislators Home and also the best ministers’ quarters. Sections facing the High Court, which is towards the north, and Raj Bhavan, towards the east, are the most in demand. Supporters of MLAs have been doing a recce of Legislator Home rooms for the past few days to grab the best ones. The Legislators’ Home has around 300 rooms for 224 MLAs and 75 MLCs.

A source, who works at Vidhana Soudha, said, “As the complete handover by the old government will happen on Saturday, most of the offices at Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha, rooms at LH and ministerial quarters are vacant. Some will be handed over on Saturday.’’

Since May 13, when the election results were announced, all the name boards have been removed and keys handed over to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) and secretariat officials concerned.

Another source said, “Officials have checked the inventory at all these spaces and the rooms will be handed over to new occupants after a fresh coat of paint.”

Most of the MLAs from the three parties who have retained their Assembly seats have kept their previous rooms at LH.

Sources said the first session of the new  Assembly could be called on May 23 or 24 and the allotment of spaces would be completed before that.
