Bharat Ratna for Kuvempu: State leaders to discuss in Delhi
BENGALURU: With the Karnataka government proposing to the Union Government to confer Bharat Ratna on Rashtrakavi Kuvempu in September, the Vokkaliga leadership and several noted personalities are gathering in New Delhi on December 17 to take up the issue further.
Adi Chunanagiri seer Sri Nirmalanandanatha swami and former PM HD Deve Gowda are among those who will attend the workshop on Padma Vibhushan Kuvempu organised by Karnataka Sangha and Kuvempu Vishwamanava Kshemabhivrudhi Trust of Mysuru.
The meeting will pass a resolution demanding that the Centre confer Bharat Ratna posthumously on Kuvempu, sources said.
BJP general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh, Union ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, HD Kumaraswamy, Shobha Karandlaje, Pralhad Joshi, and V Somanna, BJP MPs Dr CN Manjunath, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, and Tejasvi Surya, former CM M Veerappa Moily, state’s special representative in Delhi TB Jayachandra, Jnanpith awardee Dr Chandrashekara Kambara, Nadoja Hampa Nagarajaiah, Central Sahitya Akademi Chairman Dr Madhav Koushik, and others are expected to take part.
