THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite tall claims made by the BMS leaders, its cadres went on rampage at various parts of the state to turn Tuesday’s dawn-to-dusk hartal violent.

There were stone-pelting at various parts of the state and the protestors forcefully closed down shops and offices.

Around 50 buses of the KSRTC were damaged by protestors at various parts of the state. “10 employees were hurt in stone-pelting. Five of them were seriously injured,’’ said T P Senkumar, MD, KSRTC. Though the KSRTC began services in almost all routes in the morning, services were suspended in the routes where buses were attacked.

In several places, including the neighbourhood of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, food joints and hotels were forcefully closed. “The call was for a peaceful strike.

We are also upset over the violence,’’ said K Vijayakumar, secretary, BMS state committee. When asked about the forceful closure of hotels near the Medical College Hospital here, Vijayakumar said that in all other places there had been an arrangement between the BMS workers and the authorities to ensure functioning of shops near hospitals.
