THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The meeting of the governing council of Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) to be held on Wednesday will take up three crucial reports on the higher education sector in the State. The reports are the U R Ananthamurthy Committee report on State’s higher education policy, Jacob Tharu Committee report on examination reforms and Anandakrishnan Committee report on the review of acts of universities of the State.

The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. at the KSHEC office on the Planetarium campus. The chairmen of the three committees will submit their reports at the meeting to be chaired by Education Minister M A Baby.

The final report of the Ananthamurthy Committee on State’s higher education policy has suggested reduction in the size of affiliating universities for reducing the burden on the university. Other important suggestions of the report include giving priority to cooperative and government-controlled institutions in the self-financing sector, filling-up of existing vacancies of teachers on a priority basis, abolishing the system of guest/ contract faculty, establishing Academic Staff Colleges in all universities and the setting up of a College Service Commission.

Jacob Tharu Committee report has suggested the mandatory development of a suitable template with guidelines relating to the scope and structure of the syllabus statement of each course. The final report of the Anandakrishnan Committee has suggested the incorporation of UGC regulations into varsity laws as the single-most important step that can be taken to improve the quality of higher education sector in the State.

All the three reports can be accessed on the website www.kshec.kerala.gov.in.
