KOCHI: The Kerala Travel Mart (KTM)-2010 is expected to generate a total business of around Rs 3,000 crore, the officials have said. There has been a 25 percent increase in the business for hoteliers and tour operators this time compared to the last KTM.

“This time most of the buyers were from Britain.

There were traditional buyers from other countries like the US, the UK, France and Germany for the event,” KTM president Riaz Ahmad told reporters here.

One of the biggest international travel marts focusing on a particular state, the sixth edition of KTM was attended by about 500 tourism organisations from various countries. There were over 300 sellers from the state, showcasing different tourism product categories.

The KTM, in association with the Kerala Tourism, will be organising foreign road shows next year, the officials said.

“Already the Kerala Tourism has organised road shows in a number of Indian cities. The KTM is planning to organise road shows abroad,” he said.

After the tremendous response from South Africa, we have decided to organise the next road show there.

The Central Government has been supporting the KTM in organising the road shows. Earlier, KTM Society had organised road shows in the UAE and Oman. It is for the first time that the KTM has showcased Muziris, thereby bringing it to the international tourism scenario,” the officials said.
