ALUVA: The Jamaat-Islami and the RSS are the two sides of the same coin, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi said here on Friday.

He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a seminar organised by Orthodox Christian Youth Movement at the YMCA Camp Centre here.

Ravi said the Congress Party had never associated itself with the Jamaat-Islami and agreed with the Muslim League’s view on the organisation.

When asked for his response over the proposed move to make K Muraleedharan AICC secretary, Ravi said it was only the creation of the media. The minister said he was unaware of any such move.

There is nothing special if somebody meets the High Command or any senior leaders of the Congress Party, Ravi said.

On the Congress Party’s organisational elections, Ravi said he was of the opinion that holding elections was the best to find the office bearers of the party.

However, Ravi said he had been convinced by the majority of leaders that it would be harmful to the party to conduct election as the party was preparing to face the elections to the local bodies and Assembly.

The anomalies in choosing the office bearers, if any, would be resolved soon, he said.
