A-VIEW to train 10,000 teachers

Union Minister for Human Resources Development Kapil Sibal has said that the quality of students ultimately depend upon the quality of the teachers. “Unless we empower our teachers, our children will not be empowered,” Sibal said while inaugurating from Delhi the online workshop of the IIT-Bombay and the Amrita University to train 10,000 teachers across the country through the e-Learning platform A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive e-Learning World).

The workshop is scheduled to continue till July 4.

Sibal said that A-VIEW allowed the interaction of students and teachers.

Lauding the role of the initiative of the IIT-Bombay and the Amrita University, Sibal said that institutions should collaborate like this to deliver the best to the people. The Minister addressed the participants through A-VIEW during his live interaction from Delhi.

A-VIEW is being used by the IIT-Bombay for a two-week workshop on ‘Introduction to Research Methodologies’ for 10,000 teachers. Amrita e-Learning Research Lab director Kamal Bijlani said that IIT-Bombay would provide the methodology.

There will be several centres spread across the nation attending the workshop.

Amrita will provide the software platform.

IIT-Bombay’s national workshop leader Deepak Phatak said:”We have received tremendous response from various participants (faculties); the teachers were amazed that the knowledge of national experts is available at their doorsteps”.

He said that more than 100 leading universities/institutions had expressed their interest in conducting regular online classes at their campuses through A-VIEW.
