KOCHI: The melody that crossed boundaries is no more. His songs are like waves that fondle the ocean like his first song in Malayalam ‘Sagarangale padi unarthum shyamageethame’, exactly.

His songs have a magic power that can touch the depths of your mind and soul. Be it the soothing melodies from ‘Nakhakshathangal’, the romantic tunes from ‘Vaisali’, or the song with a philosophical touch from ‘Patheyam’. Bombay Ravi’s music speaks for him.

The music director who started his career in Hindi was introduced by director Hariharan through ‘Panchagni’, his first released Malayalam movie. The songs ‘Sagarangale’, ‘Aaa rathri’, ‘Manjal prasadavum’,’Areyum bhavgayakanakkum’ and ‘Kevala marthya bhasha’ made him the favourite of music lovers.

When Hariharan and MT decided to go for the epic ‘Oru Vadakan Veeragatha’ in 1988, they asked none other than Bombay Ravi to hold the reins of the music department. Ravi did not disappoint them and came up with ‘Chandana lepa sugandham’, ‘Indulekha’, ‘Unni ganapathi’ and ‘Kalari Vilakku’. All of them are still the favourites of Malayalis.

If ONV penned the lyrics for ‘Panchagni’ and ‘Nakhakshathangal’, it was Kaithapram and K Jayakumar who teamed up with Bombay Ravi for ‘Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha’.  Again Ravi magic was witnessed by Malayalis in the very next year when he joined hands with director Bharathan for ‘Vaishali’. His songs ‘Indupushpam’, ‘Indraneelima’, ‘Dum dum dum’ and ‘Theduvethethoru’ were a novel experience to music lovers.

Ravi again teamed up with Bharathan in 1993 for the movie ‘Patheyam’.
