Pinarayi slams Panniyan

CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has asked CPI state secretary Panniyan Raveendran to disclose the source of the information that CPM activists interrupted court proceedings in Vadakara.

He was inaugurating a public meeting organised at Kuttikkol on Monday.

“A responsible politician and leader like Raveendran should not have said that,” Pinarayi said. “Though there are differences between the two parties regarding the Presidential election, it would not affect the LDF. However, the CPI deliberately attacks the CPM often.” The CPM state secretary further said that T P Chandrasekharan was not a clean leader as the media portrays him. “He too was involved in corruption. He was found supplying sand illegally when he was in charge of fertiliser distribution in Eramala panchayat. The party suspended Chandrasekharan from the post of Onchiyam area secretary on finding him guilty,” Pinarayi alleged.

Panniyan Denies Charges

CPI state secretary Panniyan Ravindran has denied the charges levelled against him by CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.

Speaking to ‘Express’ over phone from Thiruvalla, he said that Pinarayi Vijayan should make clear as to who had misled him over the statement attributed to have been made by him. Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said in Kasargod that Panniyan Ravindran had said that CPM workers had attacked Vatakara court while CPM Kozhikode district secretariat member P Mohanan, one of the accused in the TP Chandrasekharan murder, was brought to the court. Pannian said he had not made any such statement.

“They say I had made such a statement during the course of my speech made at Guruvayur the other day. But I have not made such remarks. Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan has to make clear who had misled him over my speech,’’ he said.

Panniyan said Pinarayi could enquire about the content of his speech from the Deshabhimani reporter present at Guruvayur. “We work together in the LDF and our approach is that both parties should work in cohesion. The misunderstanding is unfortunate,’’ he said.

However, he pointed out that CPM had its own internal problems and CPI did not want to be a party to it. He also said that both CPM and CPI had different perspectives over extending support to UPA’s presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee.  “We believe our stand to abstain from presidential election is right. CPM has taken a different stand and decided to support him. But the LDF would go unitedly in spite of the difference of opinion over such issues,’’ he said.
