I have no faith in SIT led by IG Gopinath: EP Jayarajan

CPM central committee member E P Jayarajan has said that he has no faith in the Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Thrissur Range Inspector General S Gopinath formed to hold a reinvestigation into the conspiracy behind the murder- attempt on him.

The SIT had been constituted by the government on the basis of the revelations made by Prasanth Babu, a local leader of the Congress and former driver of K Sudhakaran MP.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Jayarajan alleged that the members of the SIT who had been handpicked by the Home Minister were all loyal servants of the Congress and the probe would not be impartial.

He further alleged that the constitution of such a team of police officials for the investigation was designed to exonerate K Sudhakaran of all the charges made against him.

He demanded that the investigation should be conducted by officials with proven integrity.

Responding to the comment made by K Sudhakaran that he hadn’t suffered any bullet injuries during his train journey in Andhra Pradesh, Jayarajan said that medical records of shrapnel taken out of his body could be shown to the mediapersons, but he was not ready to do so to meet the challenge made by a ‘criminal’.

He said that Vikramchalil Sasi and Petta Dinesan were the contract killers assigned to murder him.

The names of M V Raghavan and K Sudhakaran were recorded in the FIR on the basis of the statements given by the accused immediately after their arrest.

The names of Raghavan and Sudhakaran were excluded from the list later, he said.

Jayarajan was shot at by the two-member gang as he was returning home by train after attending the CPM party congress in Andhra Pradesh in 1995.
