CPI does not practise backstabbing, says Panniyan

The CPI is not a party which practises backstabbing, said party state secretary Panniyan Ravindran here on Sunday.

Reacting to the statement made by CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan the other day that the CPI chooses to backstab the CPM whenever the latter is in a crisis.

Panniyan said the CPI always ‘speaks directly to anyone what they feel right’.

He also said that he does not know why Vijayan made such a statement.

 “Criticism is unavoidable in politics.

Strong and healthy criticisms are effective in rectifying mistakes and the CPM can point out the mistakes committed by us if there is any.

However, political issues will be discussed within the LDF,” he said.

Reiterating the party’s stand, he said that the CPI considers the killing of T P Chandrasekharan ‘a cruel political murder’.

“We are against murder and hate speeches.

M M Mani of the CPM, K Sudhakaran of the Congress and P K Basheer of IUML, who all made hate speeches should be dealt in the same way.

The police have not questioned Basheer, the sixth accused in a murder case, he said.
