‘Queen of cheating’ in police net

The shadow police led by City Police Commissioner P Vijayan arrested an Ernakulam native Sini, 38, on charges of cheating many people to the tune of `54 lakh and 11 sovereigns of gold, from her residence at Kumbalangi in Ernakulam on Wednesday.

The arrest was made on a complaint filed by Rosy of Thrissur, a government employee, at the Vanitha police station here in January.

According to the police, Sini got into an acquaintance with Rosy during a train journey  to Kasargod. During the conversation, Sini came to know that Rosy had lent `2 lakh to someone and she did not get the money back.

In the course of conversation, Sini earned the trust of Rosy and offered help to get back the money with the help of her friends in the Police Department. She obtained Rosy’s half sovereign gold ring and `1000 for this purpose.

Later, Sini approached her again and grabbed a ten-and-half sovereign golden chain from Rosy after intimidating her, the police said. Sini, known as the queen of cheating in southern districts of the state, had undergone imprisonment in connection with a cheating case in which she duped a resort owner of `18 lakh in Alapuzha in 2008.

The resort owner later ended his life after she threatened him by showing his nude pictures with her taken earlier. She had also duped a man of Thoppumpadi, Ernakulam, to the tune of `22 lakh in a real estate business.

The Chengamanad police had registred a case against her a couple of years ago after she duped a woman to the tune of `2.5 lakh in the guise of a godwoman. She has been involved in several cheating cases and her husband Lalu was her accomplice in many cheating cases, the police said.
