Vadakara Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Thursday remanded CPM Kannur district secretariat member Karayi Rajan for five days in police custody in T P Chandrasekharan murder case.

He was arrested under Sections 118 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) and 212 (harboring offender) of the Indian Penal Code. Rajan, who had surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Ernakulam in connection with the Fasal murder case was remanded in the district jail.

He was produced before the Vadakara court by the SIT after securing a production warrant from the court on Wednesday.In the Chandrasekharan murder case, Rajan is accused of helping Sijith, one of the members of the killer gang, to get treatment from Koothuparamba Cooperative Hospital.

Sijith had sustained injury on his hand while attacking the RMP leader. Sources with the police maintained that Rajan had prior information about the conspiracy to kill Chandrasekharan.

Rajan has been named as the seventh accused in Fasal murder case.Vadakara Judicial First Class Magistrate M Shohaib dismissed the plea of Rajan not to let him under police custody. He also sought the permission of the court to allow a lawyer during the interrogation by the SIT. The court also rejected the request but permitted him to interact with the lawyer once in a day.

In another related development, Vadakara court remanded CPM Kunnummakkara Local Committee member K C Ramachandran to judicial custody on Thursday.

The police arranged tight security on Vadakara court premises on Thursday. Many CPM workers thronged  the court and raised slogans in favour of Rajan when he was brought to the court.

SIT officials conducted an idnetification parade of the killer gang member Shinoj at Kozhikode District Jail.
