Arrested SFI leaders released after CPM, DYFI protest

In yet another act of using brute political clout, the CPM and the DYFI leaders managed to release two local leaders of the SFI arrested by the Town police from custody, after blocking the police station here for more than two hours.

Tension prevailed on the premises of the Town Police Station as the leaders of the CPM and DYFI, including  CPM district secretary P Jayarajan and M V Jayarajan, held a sit-in at its entrance demanding the release of the arrested SFI leaders. The belligerent mob of the CPM and DYFI activists came out of the station after obtaining the release of SFI leaders K Mithun and A K Sumesh, joint secretaries of the Payyanur area committee.

The trouble started when the two leaders wanted in connection with various cases were picked by a police team as they were standing in front of the Kannur Sub-jail to receive SFI district president Sarin Sasi who was released on bail.

Sarin Sasi was arrested two weeks ago from Payyanur for providing shelter to P K Kunjananthan, Panur area committee member of the CPM and one of the main accused in the murder case of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader T P Chandrasekharan.
