The arrest of former Tamil Nadu MLA Rajkumar on Friday in connection with the death of Satya, a native of Peermedu, brought some relief to the family and neighbours of the victim.
It was the massive protests of the locals that led to his arrest at Perambalur. Anbarasan, the personal assistant of the accused and driver Mahindran were also nabbed. Rajkumar has been charged with abduction, rape and murder.
Satya, a class IX student of Chidambaram Pillai Memorial Higher Secondary School, Peermedu, was working as a housemaid at Rajkumar’s home. She died on July 6 under suspicious circumstances. However, the postmortem conducted at the Theni Medical College allegedly did not find any foul play in her death. There was a huge outcry when the hospital refused to reveal the postmortem report, following which an autopsy was done again at the Kottayam Medical College. Then it was reported that Satya was brutally raped, said the police.
