44 hurt as buses collide

About 44 persons were injured after a KSRTC Super Fast bus and a private bus collided at the National Highway near Ithikkara Bridge on Sunday. None of the injured is in critical condition.

Three other cars were involved in the mishap while passengers of the cars were safe. Traffic along the area disrupted for hours following the accident.

The incident happened at around 11.30 am, when the Thriuvananthapuram-bound bus from Kollam and Kottiyam-bound bus from Ayoor collided. The mishap occurred after a car bound for Thiruvananthapuram applied sudden break when another car unexpectedly came to the road from the side road.

The KSRTC bus, which was behind the car, lost control in its attempt to prevent a collision and then collided head on with the private bus. Meanwhile, another car hit the KSRTC bus from behind. The injured were admitted to private hospitals in Kottiyam and Chathannoor. The majority have left hospitals by evening.
