The special investigation team probing the murder of T P Chandrasekharan, on Monday, arrested Pondi Shaji, hailing from Panur in Kannur district, in connection with the case pertaining to the murder attempt against T P Chandrasekharan in 2009.
He was arrested on charge of being part of criminal conspiracy and a hired gang to kill Chandrasekharan in September 2009.
Shaji, 40, was a close associate of Kirmani Manoj, another accused in the case, who led the killer squad then.
The accused was produced before the Vadakara Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Monday and remanded in judicial custody at the district jail for 14 days.
