Schools to get three holidays for Eid

Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb has asserted that there is no need to be confused over the Onam examination clashing with Eid-Ul-Fitr.

The Education Department has decided to give three holidays for Eid. According to the latest time table, the exams will start on August 14 and end on August 24, and there will be a break for Eid-Ul-Fitr.

“The dates before and after Eid will be holidays. The examination time tables have been prepared keeping Eid-Ul-Fitr in mind,” the minister told ‘Express’. The minister also said that the examinations in the schools which have vacation during the Ramadan month would be conducted after the Onam vacation. “The Muslim community will get enough time to celebrate Eid,” he added.

Earlier, the confusion over the Onam exam schedule had landed the Education Department in trouble.

The department had decided to implement the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) Committee’s proposal to conduct the examinations after the Onam vacation. But the minister’s office changed the decision later. Muslim organisations came out heavily against the decision to conduct the examinations during Eid.
