Sudheeran trains guns on Chandy Cabinet

Senior Congress leader V M Sudheeran has once again raked up a debate viz-a-viz the Oommen Chandy-led UDF Government, this time on the performance levels of some ministers in the latter’s team.

Sudheeran has come out in the open stating that many ministers in the state Cabinet seems to be ignorant of their domain and not keen on good performance.  He also reiterated his stand that the government should take corrective measures and change its policy on paddy field and wetland conversion issues as well as excess land in the custody of plantations.

“The UDF Government should see to it that policy decisions on matters which could have adverse bearing on the society is piloted only after detailed discussions with all concerned,” he demanded.

Addressing one of the sessions on the last day of the three-day Yuvadarshan 2012,the state leadership camp of the Youth Congress, which concluded here on Sunday, Sudheeran trained his guns without naming any ministers in Chandy’s team but generalising that some are not up to the mark. “Private secretaries run the show of some ministers who are seemingly not aware of many crucial matters,” he said.  Incidentally, Sudheeran was all praise for Oommen Chandy’s initiatives including mass contact programmes.

“Chandy is a model to all but his initiatives alone would not bear fruit. Along with many able ministers, it is well-known that a few know nothing and are under the control of private secretaries,” he said. Sudheeran turned to his characteristic style on the course of the speech by reminding it was the duty of all to perform according to their assigned roles. “Those who are not known even in their neighbourhood are seen in flex boards now. And many are seen only in functions like this where they jostle with each other to be seen on the visual media”, he said, adding such elements should be removed. “Only those who are performing well should be rewarded in the party”, he insisted and opined that there was no need for the Central leadership to interfere in the affairs of the Youth Congress and the KSU here. “It will do more damage than any good”, he felt. Going against the current trend, Sudheeran also made an apparent dig at Rahul Gandhi.  “Political work by means of computers and e-mail will only give the results of the UP Assembly polls,” he said, without elaborating Rahul Gandhi’s poll campaign in the Hindi heartland.

I’ve an Excellent Team of Ministers: Chandy

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy chose not to join issue with Sudheeran on his remarks on the performance level of some ministers in his cabinet.  “Sudheeran has every right to air his own views. However, I would say that I have an excellent team of ministers and I’m fully satisfied. If at all there is any shortcoming, I’m responsible for it,” Chandy maintained in response to the queries of mediapersons, while coming out after an hour long interaction with Youth Congress activists on the venue.
