Crucial CPM Secretariat meeting from Tuesday

The two-day CPM secretariat meeting beginning on Tuesday is going to be one of the most significant one for the party as well as the veteran leader V S Achuthanandan.

The moot question is whether VS would further stun his ‘’fans’’ within and outside the party with his unpredictable moves on Tuesday.

As the politburo meeting is slated for June 8 and the central committee of which he is also a part is scheduled to meet on June 9 and 10, not only the political observers and VS critics but also the rank and file of the party are keenly waiting to know whether the state secretariat which  has almost turned out to be a coterie of Pinarayi Vijayan, would recommend to axe  VS.

The ‘chargesheet’ against VS to be discussed include his equating Pinarayi Vijayan with Dange, rejection of the “official version’’ that slain RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan was a renegade and traitor and Achuthanandan’s “betrayal’’ of the party on the very day on which the party was fighting an electoral battle at Neyyattinkara by making a visit to the ‘’traitor’s’’ house.

The CPM had never ever  witnessed such an open challenge to the leadership by a leader while he continues to be a part of the leadership.

The strength regained by the CPM through  the exhibition of organisational might through the conduct of the state conference in the capital and 20th party congress in Kozhikode within a gap of a few weeks,  has suffered a dent hrough the defiant stand  of VS. The letter calling for the removal of Pinarayi Vijayan from the post of state secretary had put both the state and central leadership in a fix.

Though the state secretariat is at loggerheads with Achuthanandan, it is unsure whether the central leadership would accept the secretariat’s version completely and wield the cudgel of discipline against Achuthanandan.
