‘Investors attracted to state for wrong reasons’

A majority of the prospective investors for Emerging Kerala are attracted to the nature and environment wealth of Kerala which is not a healthy trend, said poet and environmentalist Sugathakumari.

She was addressing mediapersons here on Saturday to announce the Kerala Paristhithi Sammelanam, a two-day conclave of environmentalists to be held at YMCA hall here on September 2 and 3.

“The state can attract any number of investments if the natural and environment wealth are allowed to be exploited.

But such investments will not help the state to attain sustainable development.

“We fear several projects in the Emerging Kerala would lead to mindless exploitation of environment,” she said.

Meeting convener RVG Menon said that an approach paper for development would be prepared by considering the conclusions arrived after the deliberations.

The meeting will be attended by the Opposition Leader, Ministers, MLAs and other officials.

The approach paper would be submitted to the Chief Minister and Opposition Leader, Menon said.
