The arrested had been identified as Rafeeq, 31 of Thrissur, Sakkeer, 29, of Palakkad, Jaypal, 36, of Kottayam and Guruvayur natives Shaneef, 26 and Jamsheer. The value of the seized narcotics substance in international market is believed to be more than Rs 1 crore. Assistant Commissioner of Police R K Jayaraj said the police team, led by sub-inspector K K Suresh, caught the five persons red-handed with 800 gm of brown sugar when they were trying to sell it off on the Guruvayur Town Hall premises. Probe is on to arrest the drug suppliers involved in the crime and to trace the roots of the brown sugar racket based in the coastal belt, he said.
