Airport: Hartal total

The 12-hour hartal called in the district on Wednesday by the Thiruvaranmula Paithrikagrama Samrakshana Samithi in association with the Palliyoda-Pallivilakku Samrakshana Samithi demanding the exclusion of Aranmula airport project in Emerging Kerala 2012 was total and peaceful.

Government offices, markets, banks and other financial institutions, shops and markets remained closed. Public transport system, including private buses, taxies and autorickshaws, kept off the roads.

At Kaipattur Junction near here, hartal-supporters pelted stones on a KSRTC bus, breaking glasspanes, the police said.
