A container truck overturned after it hit a 66 KV electric tower at Thottakkattukara near here in the wee hours of Wednesday. The truck was going to Vallarpadam Container Transshipment Terminal from Angamaly. Driver of the truck, Joemon of Kandanad, Tripunithura, escaped without any injury.

As the tower fell across the road, the traffic was halted for more than four hours. The highway between Thottakkattukara and Paravoor Junction was widened of late but the electric tower was not shifted from there. The locals alleged that the delay in removing the pole caused the accident.

Meanwhile, Dinesh, 40, hailing from West Bengal, who suffered serious injuries after he fell from another electric pole a few yards away from the accident spot died on Wednesday evening. He was trying to repair the power line which was damaged in the accident.
