5 Injured as car falls into gorge

Five passengers of a car, including a pregnant woman and an infant, escaped miraculously after the vehicle in which they were travelling fell into a gorge on the Kollam-Theni National Highway near here, in the wee hours of Sunday.

They were returning home after attending a marriage in Tiruchirappally. They were taken to Cumbum Government Hospital where they were given first aid, police said.

The incident occurred when the car was trying to negotiate a speeding vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the car lost control and the vehicle fell into the 50-feet gorge. The passengers were rescued with the help of locals.

The incident occurred in Tamil Nadu area of Kumily. There are reports of Tamil Nadu police reacting slowly after being intimated about the accident.
