Hundreds of passengers had a harrowing time as an Air India Express flight from here to Sharjah was cancelled without prior information on Saturday morning.

The irate passengers, including women and children, proceeded to the Air India office in the city and staged a protest demo there.

The passengers, who had booked their tickets months in advance, alleged that they were ill-treated by the staff at the office.

The passengers later dispersed after being promised to be taken on a flight in the evening. They were later taken to their destination in other flights.

Though Air India officials said the cancellation was due to technical reasons, it is learnt that the aircraft was diverted for operating Hajj services from UP.
