Two held in temple robbery case

A police team led by CI Jayakrishnan arrested Biju Kumar, 38, and Arjun Kumar, 26, in connection with the burglary at Edathala Mattappally Bhagavathy temple on Thursday.

The arrested persons, who are related to each other, allegedly broke into the temple sreekovil and stole ornaments worth Rs 3.5 lakh. The duo also stole Rs 5,000 in cash  from the temple office. The daring burglary had taken place in March last year.

According to the Aluva police, Biju Kumar, a resident of Nedumkandam, has been an accused in other cases of temple robbery too. After the burglary at Edathala Bhagavathy temple, the police said, he went underground. But last month, he made a similar attempt at one of the temples in the Kodanad-Perumbavoor area and was arrested.Upon inquiry, the police found that his nephew Arjun Kumar was also involved in all the robberies he had attempted.
