Achuthanandan rejects party charge against personal aides

In a virtual rejection ofCPI-M's state committee's charge against his three personalaides, party stalwart V S Achuthanandan asserted they had notdone anything wrong warranting expulsion from the party.

"My view is that they (personal staff) have not committedany mistake. I have conveyed this to the party's centralcommittee," he said in reply to queries at a press meet here.

In what is widely seen as yet another move to furthercontain Achuthanandan, the CPI(M) state committee, headed byhis bete noire Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday decided to expelthree members of his personal staff from the party on thecharge of leaking out party information to the media.

Those against whom the action had been proposed includeAchuthanandan's Press Secretary K Balakrishnan, PersonalAssistant A Suresh and Additional Private Secretary V KSasidharan, who serve as his staff in his capacity as Leaderof the Opposition in the state.

Asked if he thought it was a move by his rival to weakenhis functioning as opposition leader, Achuthanandan said "Iwill take my work vigorously forward", adding, "you (media)cannot be faulted if you entertain such a doubt."

The charge against his personal staff was that they hadleaked to the media contents of a review document prepared bythe party state committee for internal circulation during theCPI(M) congress in Coimbatore in 2008.

However, the decision has been kept in abeyance for thecentral committee's ratification as Achuthanandan objected toits implementation.
