'Mono rail projects will be finished within deadline'

The re-tendering procedures for the Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode Mono rail projects will be completed in three months, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Saturday. “Though the projects have been re-tendered, both Thiruvanathapuram and Kozhikode mono rail projects will be completed within the scheduled deadline. The projects were re-tendered after receiving only one response for the tenders floated initially. However, the process for re-tendering will be completed within three months,” the Chief Minister said.

He was speaking after visiting the construction site of Kochi Metro Rail. Principal advisor to DMRC E Sreedharan, who was with the Chief Minister during the site inspection, had said that though the  pile capping works of Kochi Metro Rail  construction was lagging one and half months behind the schedule owing to the heavy monsoon, they would be able to manage to keep to the schedule once the rain recedes.

“The heavy rains affected the construction of pile caps and piers but the remaining civil works are not affected,” he said. Regarding the construction work on Kochi Metro at MG Road, Sreedharan said that there was a delay in executing the work there. “It was mainly due to the postponement of work in connection with the Onam season and the heavy rain that the city witnessed during the same period. Once the rain recedes, the work at MG Road too will gather momentum,” he said.
