Piling works for Edappally flyover to begin this week

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said that piling works for Edappally flyover will begin next week and preliminary works have already begun.

“The construction of Edappally flyover will be completed on a fast-track manner. The widening work at Edappally has already begun. Both sides of the road must be developed for the construction and the widening is expected to be completed within three months,” Chandy said.

The flyover will come up near Lulu Mall at Edappally and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be implementing the project.

The preliminary works for the project began earlier this month and the ground preparation works are now progressing.

The flyover was proposed to minimise traffic congestion at Edappally and the work was awarded to Larsen & Toubro (L&T), which is entrusted with the construction of Kochi metro rail at the reach that includes Edappally.

A total of 1.75 acres of land will be acquired for the flyover and related roads.

The land will be acquired along with the progression of the construction works and two new bridges will be constructed parallel to ise traffic congestion at Edappally and the work was awarded to Larsen & Toubro (L&T), which is entrusted with the construction of Kochi metro rail at the reach that includes Edappally.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need for developing infrastructure for reaping the maximum benefit of the Kochi metro rail.

The total cost of the flyover is estimated at Rs 108 crore  and the work is expected to be completed in 18 months. The project is funded by the Kerala Road Fund Board.
