MATTANCHERY: Sreekaram, a charity organisation functioning at Mattancherry, is all set to extend its services by providing full-time shelter for around eight senior inmates.
For this, Sreekaram has started a project titled ‘Ente Veedu’ (My home) at Alathukutty Road near Mattancherry to take care of helpless senior citizens.
As part of this project, the organisation has bought a building to accommodate the inmates and provide all basic facilities.
The official inauguration of ‘Ente Veedu’ will be done by District Collector M G Rajamanickam here at 4 pm on Sunday. Dominic Presentation MLA will preside over the function.
“We have arranged two big halls for accommodating the inmates with all the necessary facilities like attached bathrooms, European toilets, 24x7 hot water, kitchen and other facilities. We will also run our office and treatment facilities for the poor people from here,” said Sreekaram president R Prakash.
The organisation started with the hard work of a few senior persons of Mattancherry, and has made an impact among the public through their social and charity activities.
For accommodating poor and helpless senior persons, the institution had started a day care home near Mattanchery Town Hall.
But it was not enough for the senior citizens who didn’t have anybody to take care of them, which led the organisation to start the ‘Ente Veedu’ project.
“At present we can only accommodate eight senior persons and we will take care of the others by providing free food kit and other necessary needs,” added Prakash.
Around `50 lakh has been spent for purchasing the building and that amount has been collected with the contribution of local people and sponsorships.
Those who are interested in contributing to the organisation can do so by transferring cash at the Syndicate Bank, Cheralayi, to the Sreekaram account with account number 4307 2010007005 IFSC code SYNB 00004307.
