Meet on National Pilgrimage Project

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar will convene a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the next step regarding elevating Sabarimala into a National Pilgrimage Centre. The meeting will review the progress of a detailed report of the national pilgrimage project.

The Minister along with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Environment and Forests Minister Prakash Javadekar to submit a request for the same. The state has also demanded that forest land be given for the development of Sabarimala.

A high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister on October 30 here had entrusted Devaswom Board and Sabarimala High Power Committee with preparing a detailed project report.

The meeting, to be held from 12 noon, will be attended by Sabarimala High Power Committee chairman, Devaswom Board president, members, commissioners and Devaswom secretary.

Ahead of Sabarimala Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival season, a meeting of Devaswom Board officials from all South Indian states, will discuss the special facilities to be arranged for the pilgrims from other states. It will be held at 2 pm at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall. Minister Sivakumar has informed that Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala will attend the meeting.

Special arrangements have to be made at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
